Brooklyn Half Marathon is on Saturday! The start is conveniently located just outside my front door. Waking up at 6:30 for a race that starts at 7:30 seems totally awesome; a week and a half ago I had to get up at 4 for the NJ half—which started at 6:45—in order to drive to the start and worry about parking.

I am also excited about actually running the race. FLATBUSH CLOSED TO TRAFFIC! Finish at Coney Island!

I was at Coney Island last weekend, with my Parents. We stopped into the Coney Island Beach Shop to get my sister a t-shirt with a mermaid on it (it’s kind of her thing), and saw these Occupy Coney Island t-shirts for sale.

I guess you can commodify anything.

Maybe maybe maybe, if we live in a reasonable world, money from these shirts is going to Occupy Sandy Relief, but there were no signs or posters attesting to that. Just t-shirts and flip flops and the requisite Fishs Eddy Brooklyn stuff for sale.

EVERY HAIRCUT EVER. Every time. I always come in for my next one, and my stylist KNOWS. And SCOLDS ME. Oh hair.

I always have this “problem.” This time, I just preemptively cut my bangs BEFORE my haircut. Now they can be the right shortness, and the stylist with tidy them up.

RELISH WARDROBE!

You may have read in this tumblr post how I’m nervous about my tour and was contemplating what to wear, in magical fantasy dress land. WELL. Now I have FOUR ~~COSTUMES~~ OUTFITS to wear on my tour, each an homage to my book cover! My pal Susan hooked me up with a custom dressmaker, who was then furnished with a little Spoonflower fabric of the hand-drawn repeat pattern from the back of my book cover, and TA DA. She made me an amazing 1950s style dress (with pockets!) and fancy T-shirt! (I made the skirt. You maybe can’t tell in the photo, but you could probably tell in real life. I’m not so good at sewing.)

And THEN, because of FABULOUSNESS, I commissioned my pal Nora to make me an amazing Relish tunic for the tour! She screenprinted a little fork/knife/spoon drawing I did in GOLD onto a lovely tunic the color of my book cover, and it looks GORGEOUS. You can see the concept photo I sent to her, and the accompanying shot she sent back of the finished product (SO ACCURATE).

I’m pretty excited/nervous about my tour. Now I’m gonna be excited/nervous IN STYLE!

Huzzah! I made that shirt! I can’t wait to see Lucy in it on her book tour! And don’t be nervous, Lucy- you’re always amazing. :0)

New York City Half Marathon is this Sunday! I’ll be up early, wearing purple, running this thing. Thanks so much to all my wonderful friends who have donated to to Team in Training on my behalf as I’ve been training for this (the first part in a two-race season: NJ Marathon’s coming up May 5th). I hit my fundraising goal of $1000 at the end of February. Awesome.

In the meantime, I’ll be teaching/leading a class at the Brainery called “How to Run a Marathon” on April 7th. If you want to come and chat about running/training/eating/stretching/etc, I’d love to have you.
